The Benefits of Fascia Flashings
on 20/07/2023
What is the Fascia?
Fascia boards are the horizontal boarding running along the edge of the roof, directly underneath the roof’s overhang, where it meets the exterior walls or sofit that juts out.
It covers the exposed roof trusses, rafters, and cavities, with its primary function to protect the roof and the interior of the home from moisture by blocking its entrance. In conjunction to protecting the roof it’s typically used to mount the spouting and guttering system that also keeps out moisture and rain from the roof and house.
While this is an integral and functional part of the roofing system it also plays an aesthetic role creating a smooth and uniform look for the roof’s edge.
For New Zealand residential buildings, timber is commonly used, and as the building ages the weathering on this exposed surface is susceptible to paint flaking and peeling, leading to cracking and even warping of the timber underneath. This can comprise the integrity of the weather seal leading to moisture getting in. The attached guttering can make it awkward to maintain and repaint impacting not only the weathertightness but also the aesthetic appeal.
Steel Fascia
Steel fascia flashings offer an alternative finishing option to the traditional painted wooden finish.
These flashings provide a consistent, quality finish that doesn’t warp or crack and will keep looking good for many years. With its multi layered baked on paint finish they also present a durable and low maintenance solution which in the long run makes for a sound financial investment.
Roofline’s Fascia systems can be fitted with a range of spoutings to create either a contemporary or traditional finish to your roof. Our fascias are manufactured using 0.55mm steel for extra strength.
